Cambodia Casinos

[ English ]

There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just across the border from next door Thailand, where gambling hall gaming is banned. Eight casinos are established in a relatively tiny area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect destination, a three to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The amazing income gained from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of limitations requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; although, investment sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are for all intents and purposes necessary to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is real of many borders.

The initial Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary ship gambling hall, highlights 150 slot machines and sixty gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall is open all hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of 21, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machines and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machines and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety six table games, including eighty seven punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and 66 of the common gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 casinos in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive resort and hotel complex that contains many conveniences aside from the casino, which houses ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and eighty eight gaming tables.
