The confirmed number of Kyrgyzstan gambling dens is something in a little doubt. As information from this country, out in the very remote central part of Central Asia, often is arduous to achieve, this might not be all that astonishing. Whether there are two or three authorized gambling dens is the element at issue, perhaps not quite the most earth-shattering bit of info that we do not have.
What no doubt will be credible, as it is of most of the ex-Soviet states, and certainly true of those in Asia, is that there no doubt will be a great many more illegal and underground gambling halls. The change to acceptable gambling did not empower all the underground casinos to come out of the dark and become legitimate. So, the clash regarding the total number of Kyrgyzstan’s casinos is a minor one at most: how many legal casinos is the element we are trying to resolve here.
We know that located in Bishkek, the capital municipality, there is the Casino Las Vegas (a remarkably original title, don’t you think?), which has both gaming tables and video slots. We will also see both the Casino Bishkek and the Xanadu Casino. Both of these contain 26 video slots and 11 table games, divided amongst roulette, vingt-et-un, and poker. Given the amazing likeness in the sq.ft. and layout of these 2 Kyrgyzstan gambling dens, it might be even more astonishing to find that they share an address. This seems most bewildering, so we can perhaps state that the list of Kyrgyzstan’s gambling dens, at least the legal ones, is limited to 2 casinos, one of them having adjusted their name recently.
The state, in common with the majority of the ex-USSR, has undergone something of a fast adjustment to free-enterprise economy. The Wild East, you could say, to allude to the lawless circumstances of the Wild West an aeon and a half back.
Kyrgyzstan’s casinos are in reality worth checking out, therefore, as a bit of anthropological research, to see chips being wagered as a form of collective one-upmanship, the apparent consumption that Thorstein Veblen wrote about in 19th century America.
