Cambodia Gambling Dens

[ English ]

There is an appealing history to the Cambodia casinos that reside just over the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling hall gaming is not legal. Eight casinos are anchored in a generally tiny area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent spot, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing capital acquired from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million, and there are a number of limitations requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; still, funding sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and even though visas are apparently necessary to cross, there are ways around this, as is true of many borders.

The initial Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary ship gambling hall, contains 150 slot machines and sixty table games. The Naga casino is open all day and night with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long opened. There are one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slots and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and 66 of the familiar tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight casinos in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive vacation and hotel complex that contains many conveniences accompanying the gambling hall, which has ten thousand square feet of 130 one armed bandits and 88 tables.
